The 4th quarter of RIICE Vietnam's operation is embarked with RIICE's Steering Committee Meeting  (SC) in Hanoi on 21 September 2016. Hosted by the Department of Science, Technology and Environment (DoSTE), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), this second SC meeting is participated by delegations from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), German Development Cooperation (GIZ), National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection (NIAPP), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Department of Planning (DoP), Department of International Cooperation (ICD), and Bao Viet Insurance (BVI).

Being as the project coordinator, NIAPP presents its progress report for the first 8-month period in operation, which is then followed by the financial report session.

Giving recommendations to the project's performance, the Steering Committee highly evaluate achievements obtained by NIAPP and its partners. While representatvies from MARD, insurance and financial sectors show great interests to the applications of remote sensing in crop monitoring, the SC recommends NIAPP to take full leadership over project technical operations by the year 2017. Other challenges addressed to reduction of field works and accuracy improvement are also highlighted.

The Steering Committee meeting is closed with an agreement of extension to project's timeline until the end of 2017. Other future collaboration between SDC, GIZ and partners are also discussed and set up.

"This project lays a foundation for the future of agricultural management works. It provides more potentials than only rice monitoring. In the future, other crops can be efficiently managed by the use of remote sensing technology", said the GIZ's representative at the end of the meeting.
