A challenging crop of Summer in the Red River delta, Vietnam has started with hot weather and followed by severe tropical storms number 1 (Mirinae), 2 (Nida) and 3 (Fengshen). Dispite the unpredictable disasters, farmers are trying their best to gain maximum outputs of the season.

Except Ha Noi, Ha Nam and Hung Yen which started the Summer season ealier from 20-30 June, the remaining 5 provinces (Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong) in RIICE's study area are observed with sowing date from 10-20 July 2016. Up to 17 September 2016, while most of rice fields in Ha Noi, Ha Nam and Hung Yen are at the maturity stage, expecting for the harvest within 15-20 days, the rest of the Red River delta are just bypassing milking stage.

A  time-series analysis for 12 Sentinel-1A imagery from April 3 to August 25, 2016, conducted by RIICE's experts, provides estimations of rice area in the whole region, as well as early forecast for the yield.
